KEY POINTS:
Armed police have been stood down after this afternoon cordoning off the main street of Waihi.
An eyewitness told nzherald.co.nz that half a dozen heavily armed police officers were at the northern entrance to the Waikato town on State Highway Two.
A helicopter was also circling.
Police were stood down and cordons lifted about 1pm.
Inspector Gary Hill earlier confirmed there was an armed offenders call out in Waihi but could give no further details.
