Armed police swooped on Huntly West overnight after a man fired a weapon into the air during a gang fight.
Police were called to Semple St about 10.20pm after reports of up to 20 people fighting in the street and a firearm being discharged into the air.
Armed police from Huntly, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton cordoned off several streets for two hours as they broke up the fight and searched for the man who used the weapon.
Police approached a house on Semple St about 12.20pm and took a man into custody.
A firearm was also recovered from the property.
