Armed police have descended on a Palmerston North street after a person was reportedly shot in the stomach.
Police were called to Ronberg St in Highbury at 5.14pm after a report of disorder and a shot being fired, a police spokesman said.
Fairfax reported one man was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
"One male has been taken to hospital with an injury," the spokesman said. "Police are working to establish how this injury was sustained."
He said no one had been arrested but police were following "positive lines of inquiry".
