The Police Armed Offenders Squad raided a house on Walton's Avenue in Masterton early yesterday morning.
They arrested a man wanted for "a number of historic domestic violence related incidents" who police suspected was in possession of a number of firearms and had the potential to use them.
"For safety reasons the AOS were used to assist local staff to take the person into custody," said Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr.
The "large contingent of police" raided the house around 6.30am and a 35-year-old man was taken in without incident. He was due to appear in Masterton District Court yesterday.
"There was a possibility that the person was in possession of a firearm. It wasn't a big deal. Just a precautionary measure to make sure," Mr Burr said.
