West Coast police armed offenders squad (AOS) members were called out twice in the space of an hour last night to deal with men who were threatening self-harm, at Hari Hari and Granity.
Meanwhile, this morning police were searching for a man in the Ross area after fears for his personal safety were called in by a concerned resident shortly before 8pm.
Acting senior sergeant prevention Brent Cook, of Greymouth police, said the AOS was dispatched early yesterday evening to rural Hari Hari where a man with a firearm was threatening to hurt himself.
About five minutes later, about 6pm, police were called to deal with a man in the Granity area who was also threatening to harm himself, this time with a baseball bat.
Mr Cook said both cases were dealt with by the AOS "without too much incident" and both men were taken to Greymouth where they were admitted for health treatment.
