Nine men have been arrested in relation to a man who was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted in Christchurch.

The Armed Offenders Squad secured and searched two properties, one in Ajax St and another in Bowenvale Ave, after a man made a complaint to police that he had been kidnapped and assaulted.

From the two addresses, nine men were arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

They will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow on charged of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and kidnapping.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said forensic examinations are being undertaken at the two addresses.

"There is still a large amount of investigation work to be done and there are other people we want to speak with," he said.

"All the people involved are known to each other and there are no immediate concerns for the wider public."
