The Armed Offenders Squad carried out an arrest warrant in Timaru this morning.

A street in Timaru had been cordoned off, to allow an arrest to take place, a police spokesman said.

The Armed Offenders Squad had since located the man, and would be removing cordons shortly, he said.

The cordon effected an area of Evans St in Timaru, the spokesman said.

A part of State Highway 1 had also been cordoned off, however the cordon had since been lifted.

The spokesman said no gun shots were fired as the warrant was carried out, however, a distraction device was used.

A man had since been taken away by police, he said.
