Police armed offenders squad (AOS) members took a man into custody near the Roaring Meg power station in the Kawerau Gorge, Central Otago, this morning.
The Dunedin AOS was called to a Cromwell property about 10am after the man, who had a gun, was reported to have threatened to harm himself.
While the squad was being deployed, the man's friends alerted police that he had gone to Roaring Meg, 15km northwest of Cromwell on State Highway 6.
