KEY POINTS:
A Westport man who had his car impounded in a fine blitz is in even more trouble after he and an accomplice sneaked into a yard with an imitation pistol and tried to retrieve it.
It was one of nine vehicles that were seized in Westport over the weekend by the police and the Ministry of Justice.
A wall unit was also confiscated in lieu of unpaid fines.
Senior Sergeant Allyson Ealam, of Greymouth, said today police spotted two men at the yard trying to get their vehicles back.
When confronted by officers, one of the men presented an imitation pistol. "Both were taken to Westport police station where they were bailed."
