An Argentinian man who drove a campervan into a truck in the Tasman district has pleaded guilty to careless driving.
Arturo Groppo, 50, appeared before Judge Bill Hastings in Wellington District Court today, where he pleaded guilty to five charges of aggravated careless driving causing injury.
Five other people were in the campervan with Groppo when it smashed into a truck carrying two people on State highway 6 near Murchison last month.
The driver of the truck had to be cut from his vehicle and suffered a number of injuries including broken legs.
Groppo was ordered to pay $20,000 to the two men in the truck, and make a $5000 donation to the Nelson Marlborough Rescue helicopter.
