Auckland Regional Council members will meet weekly for urgent work on ways to strengthen regional governance - a spin-off of the failed bid to restructure Auckland.
Last night's council meeting was told that the Government believed stronger regional governance was needed and that it would consider legislation.
Council executive manager Ann Magee said a proposal would need to go to the Government by mid-December at the latest.
