Appeal set for Mt Maunganui rapists

Four men convicted in July of the pack rape of a 20-year-old woman at Mount Maunganui will have their appeals heard early next year.

Mt Maunganui business man Peter McNamara, Papamoa fireman Warren Hales and two men whose identities remain suppressed were convicted of rape and abduction following a jury trial at the High Court at Wellington.

They were sentenced to prison terms of between 5-1/2 and 8-1/2 years.

The Court of Appeal said today their two-day appeal was set down to start on February 7.
