Aotea Centre evacuated during Auckland Arts Festival performance of Giselle

The Aotea Centre has been evacuated after the fire alarm went off during a ballet performance.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) was called there about 9pm, a FENZ spokesman confirmed.

Fire fighters found no sign of fire and cleared the building as being safe before leaving the scene about 9.20pm.

A performance Akram Khan's Giselle was on at the theatre tonight, as part ofAuckland Arts Festival.

Audience members tweeted that the evacuation happened during the second act.

The Herald has contacted Auckland Arts Festival for comment.
