Armed police have been called to an incident which has seen traffic closed off on a Wainuiomata road.
A Wellington police spokeswoman said the armed offenders squad were assisting at the scene of an incident but the reason for the callout was still unclear.
Police were asking the public to respect cordons put in place around Wainuiomata Hill Rd, she said.
