AOS callout after man shoots at dog

The Armed Offenders Squad was called out in Hastings, and pupils kept inside their classrooms, after reports of a man shooting at a dog in the suburb of Flaxmere just before midday.

After setting up a cordon, police lost sight of the man but recovered an abandoned air pistol at a house. Pupils at Kimi Ora School were briefly detained while police searched for the offender, who was still at large this afternoon.
