Police and the Armed Offenders Squad swarmed a Canterbury property today, only to find no one there.
They were responding to a report of a man holding a woman against her will on Loburn-Whiterock Rd, northwest of Rangiora.
Officers cordoned off the address and started searching for the pair but were unable to find anyone there.
The man was said to be known to the woman.
Police later found the couple safe and well at another location and spoke to them both. The man and woman both told police they were fine.
