AOS called out after self-harm threats

A Rotorua man has been taken into custody by the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) after reports he had made serious threats to hurt himself.

The man made the threats earlier today in central Rotorua and because of the nature of what he said the police took the situation seriously, Inspector Greg Sparrow said.

The AOS and police set up a cordon around his Grand Vue Road house at Kawaha Point and took him into police custody without incident.

About 15 staff were involved in the operation.
