Anzac Day transport: What you need to know

The public are being encouraged to take public transport to the main Anzac Day dawn service in central Auckland tomorrow.

The New Zealand Transport Agency tweeted this morning that those marking the traditional day of remembrance for our war dead should consider using public transport to attend services.

Auckland Transport posted on their website various ways to use public transport to attend the 6am service at Auckland War Memorial Museum.

While a Sunday and public holiday timetable is in place for all bus services, there will be additional Inner Link and Northern Express services for the dawn service.

Inner Link buses will operate every 15 minutes, both clockwise and anti-clockwise, between 4am and 6.30am. Extra Northern Express services will travel from Albany to Britomart via the Northern busway stations at 4.30am, 4.45am and 5am. The normal Sunday and public holiday timetable resumes at 7am.

Early trains will also operate for the dawn service.

A special event train will leave Swanson at 4.15am, travelling to Grafton Station on Park Rd, a 15 minute walk from the museum. It will continue through to Newmarket.

Early trains are also scheduled to leave on the Onehunga line, from 4.15am, and on the Southern and Eastern lines. The early train from Papakura will leave at 4.07am and from Manukau at 4.05am. Passengers should get off at Newmarket and walk 15 minutes to the museum.

Special trains will also travel to Newmarket from Britomart at 5.15am and 5.25am. There will be a 5am ferry from Devonport to the city to meet with these services.
