ANZAC dawn service goers could find themselves in the rain on Saturday, according to the MetService.
MetService spokesman Bob McDavitt said the forecast shows a low over the Tasman Sea that will drag subtropical air onto New Zealand and bring rain to northern areas.
"Heavy rain is expected to move onto Northland during Friday.
"On Saturday morning, it is likely to be raining in Northland, Auckland and Coromandel," Mr McDavitt said.
He said the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Golden Bay could also get a passing shower.
"Later on Saturday, rain is expected to become widespread over the north and west of both islands, with heavy falls about the Southern Alps and the Bay of Plenty," Mr McDavitt said.
He said the likely track of the Tasman Sea low pressure system was uncertain.
