Sri Lanka's cricketers were anxiously awaiting more news from their families after learning that two of the players' mothers had been injured in the tsunamis that hit Sri Lanka's coastline.
Initial reports suggested that the injuries were relatively minor, and that there was no suggestion of individual players or the team withdrawing from the New Zealand tour.
Team manager Brendon Kurupu said it would be inappropriate to name the players while the extent of the injuries was still being determined.
"We've all being trying to make contact with our families but the lines of communication have been very unstable," he said.
"As far as the team is concerned, just about everyone has been accounted for, but there are still a few more calls to be made.
"The phone lines were very poor, but it sounded like the Galle cricket stadium had been completely swamped, and that's quite some distance from the beach."
