Anxious people in Christchurch made a swarm of 111 calls last night, when four earthquakes shook the city.
They ranged in magnitude from 3.2 to 4.1. All were centred between five and 20 kilometres from Christchurch.
They came between 7.23pm and just after 8pm.
Police say they had no reports of damage, but a lot of people were frightened, particularly the elderly.
Staff at the Christchurch Central station were also worried about their own safety, as their building was given a strong shake.
