A new initiative has been launched that aims to break the cycle of domestic violence in the Nelson region.
Violence Intervention Network co-ordinator Dawn Taylor said eight agencies that worked in areas relating to family violence in Motueka and Nelson had joined together to form a group called Te Rito.
The day-to-day running of the organisations in the new initiative, which included the Whakatu Marae, Barnados and Get Safe Motueka, would not change, Ms Taylor said.
But three new services, two in Nelson and one in Motueka, would start operating.
The new services would focus on providing extended support for families affected by violence, she said.
