Northland MP John Carter is launching a fight against the methamphetamine "scourge", which has hit his region particularly hard.
He said a conference to be held in the next few months, aimed to find a strategy for the community, police and leaders to fight against the drug, which he described as a "terrible plague".
The planned conference follows other Northland attempts to address the issue.
"Methamphetamine has become one of the greatest scourges in our society in recent times and has hit particularly hard in Northland," Mr Carter said.
He hoped the conference would teach people to notice "telltale signs" of methamphetamine use and manufacture.
Safer community council co-ordinator Karen Tari said methamphetamine lab explosions in Kaikohe and Kerikeri in the past month had shown local communities that the drug was now firmly established in their backyards.
