A protest against mining in the Denniston Plateau in Southland saw about 50 protesters freeze for a minute in a central Wellington park this afternoon.
The protesters, with signs reading "NZ or Aus, don't sell off the Denniston" and "Environmental abuse is a National thing", gathered at Midlands Park at midday.
They then froze for a minute in a protest to "put a freeze on coal".
Australian mining company Bathurst Resources has resource consent to develop the Denniston coalmine, but late last month it announced it had revised its proposal.
