The old maxim history repeats itself has taken on a whole new meaning for Masterton businessman David Stevens.
Mr Stevens, 35, pulled off an incredible golfing feat ? scoring a hole?in?one on Saturday, a year to the day after doing exactly the same thing, on the same course.
This year's hole?in?one was on the 11th at the Masterton Golf Club's Lansdowne course, whereas last year's was achieved on the 8th hole.
The repeat performance seemed almost destined to happen as before leaving for golf on Saturday morning, Mr Stevens got out the cup he had been presented with for his first effort and wrote out an inscription to go on the bottom of it.
"That's how I knew straight away that I had done it again, exactly a year later, when I got the second one," he said.
The owner of Masterton Motor Lodge, has been playing golf for about 12 years, his handicap now being 10.
"It was five at one time."
Perhaps the best test of golfing endurance came at the 19th where Mr Stevens was the toast of his club mates for a considerable part of the late afternoon.
To quote another maxim ? things come in threes, so David Stevens is already pencilling in a super human effort for January 15, 2006.
Another year, another hole?in?one for Masterton golfer
