Two women seen showing "extreme intoxication" in a Greymouth bar has led to the premises losing its licence to sell alcohol.
The Railway Hotel was the second premises in Greymouth to receive a suspension of its on-licence this week, and third for the West Coast.
Police said the suspension onthe licence related to the bar allowing intoxication in the premises and allowing disorderly conduct after two women were located inside showing signs of extreme intoxication in July 2014.
A fight also broke out inside the bar and the staff closed the premises on police advice to prevent further trouble.
After a community meeting the Railway Hotel accepted the incident was below the standard required and agreed to a 24 hour closure without the need of a public hearing.
Sergeant Sean Judd said the incident was reminder that intoxicated people cannot be on licensed premises and there would be harsh penalties if they were.
"We are not talking about people out having a few drinks and having a good time, we are talking about people who drink to excess who tend to spoil the atmosphere for others," Mr Judd said.
