Stagecoach suffered its Auckland fleet's fifth bus fire in eight months today.
Fire Service Senior Station officer Shaun Thornton said that at 10.30 am the bus left the Northwestern Motorway for Great North Rd, Waterview.
Soon afterwards, the driver stopped when he noticed motorists flashing lights at him. Looking in the rear mirror he could not see the back of the bus for the smoke.
Mr Thornton said the back of the bus was well ablaze when the Fire Service arrived.
The driver and two passengers were unharmed.
