A young forestry worker is in intensive care at Gisborne Hospital after he was hit by a log in a forestry block today.
The ECT rescue helicopter flew a St John paramedic to the scene about 9.30am this morning. The accident happened on a property at Waerenga-o-Kuri, 30km inland from the city.
"His workmates had taken him up to the hauler at the logging site, where they looked after him until we got there," said chopper pilot Neil Dodds.
"The 22-year-old man sustained injuries to his chest and abdomen," the paramedic said.
Mr Dodds said it was a fairly straightforward recovery operation.
