Southern parts of New Zealand will struggle to get to temperatures in the low teens as a cold snap moves over the country.
It would be short but the air would be noticeably colder, WeatherWatch analyst Philip Duncan said.
On Thursday it was expected that Southland and parts of Otago would only just make it into the teens, with the wind chill making it feel another degree or two cooler.
Christchurch would reach 16C, and Wellington would have a high around 18C but the wind would make it feel cooler.
Hamilton would reach the low 20s and Auckland would have highs of 21C to 24C.
