Police have arrested a woman for trying to block inquiries into the gang-related shooting that killed a Wanganui toddler.
The 24-year-old was arrested yesterday and charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. Fifty investigators have been piecing together the events surrounding the death of Jhia Harmony Te Tua, 2, on May 5.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Bensemann said police were also interested in a dark-grey 1991 Nissan Primera, which they believe to have been involved in the events of that night.
Detectives would like to identify those who were in the car on May 5, and would any information on the car's movements, especially in Gonville.
The 2-year-old was killed when Mongrel Mob members shot at the suburban Gonville house where she lived with her mother and her father, a Black Power member.
Police say they are making good progress on the case and said they expect to finish their inquiries within four weeks.
Two Mongrel Mob members, aged 18 and 20, were arrested last Monday and charged with murdering the infant.
Their names have been suppressed.
At least a dozen other people have been arrested since the youngster's death, and police have executed many search warrants, recovering guns, drugs and stolen goods.
