KEY POINTS:
Dargaville police say they have made another arrest following the gunpoint theft of a van from four Irish visitors in Northland.
Northland police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said a 23-year-old Auckland man, arrested today in Dargaville, will face a charge of aggravated robbery.
A 26-year-old man was arrested last week and charged with receiving and aggravated robbery. He appeared in Manukau District Court on Friday.
The arrests follow the robbery of the van by two men armed with a long-barrelled firearm, and possibly a pistol, in Dargaville last Monday.
The four Irish men initially refused to hand over the keys but changed their minds when the weapons were produced.
The van was found partly burnt out two or three hours later. An attempt had been made to destroy it but police said the fire failed to take hold.
A "substantial amount" of property, including a generator and water blaster, were taken, but some of the property has been found.
The Irish tourists have now left the country.
The Herald reported that the Irishmen may have been connected with Australian-based traders selling questionable goods from rental vans.
