Canterbury was shaken by a magnitude 4.6 earthquake early this morning.
The aftershock was one of thousands which have struck the region since September 4's magnitude 7.1 quake.
Today's struck at 2.52am at a depth of 9km and was centred 10km south of Oxford, which is 56km northwest of Christchurch.
The aftershock was widely felt in mid Canterbury and was followed by another 3.6 magnitude aftershock at 4.53am.
The latest aftershocks come after 11 quakes, ranging from 2.5 to 4.3 on the Richter Scale, hit Canterbury overnight on Friday.
