KEY POINTS:
Crumbling rocks on a cliffside at Bucklands Beach have led to another three properties being evacuated.
A volatile landslip last weekend had originally forced residents from three clifftop homes in the East Auckland area - including former Manukau City mayor Sir Barry Curtis - before a further three properties were evacuated on Thursday.
Now more residents have been forced to find alternative accommodation because of the threat of another slip, with three properties being evacuated yesterday.
A few locals walking along the beach yesterday were careful not to get too close to the cliff, as hanging tree roots and falling rocks threatened to see the whole cliffside fall.
David Burgess, who regularly takes his two young sons for walks along the beach, acknowledged the marked area - which included Sir Barry's flat - was not the only unstable part of the cliffside.
"That only shows one isolated landslip," he said.
"But if you keep walking, there's about four unstable places - the whole thing looks unstable."
Mr Burgess said the area was popular because of its scenic views. It was a shame that many would have to go elsewhere for the summer holidays, given the state of the cliff, he said.
"I always take my boys there and they like to climb and play on the rocks. Today of course we just have to be careful.
"It's changed a lot - it looks quite unstable - it wasn't like that before."
