The Government is to spend another $10 million reforming the tertiary education sector.
Tertiary Education Minister Steve Maharey said the money would be added to the $35 million fund set up to help tertiary institutions to "adapt to the more strategically focused environment in which they must now operate".
The $10 million will be available from July 2003 and the yet to be established Tertiary Education Commission will advise on how it should be spent.
The Government wants the tertiary sector to be more co-ordinated and linked with industry and the community.
The "Strategic Change Fund" has paid for projects such as improving staff development and helping students into tertiary institutions.
Mr Maharey also announced today that $500,000 was to be spent to "develop collaborative strategies across the sector". The study would examine the possibility of sharing services such as libraries.
