Annette King was back at Nelson Hospital on the weekend, but for once she wasn't a patient.
The Minister of Health helped officially open the town's new-look hospital after a $35.4 million redevelopment.
It replaces an outdated and dilapidated facility that in parts was almost 100 years old.
Ms King, originally from Murchison, had her tonsils removed at the hospital at the age of eight. She had surgery there when she was 17 and gave birth in the old maternity hospital when she was 22.
