Industrial action is a rare but newsworthy event, and today animal rights advocates at Paw Justice are protesting against party drug testing on animals by urging internet users not to post cute animal clips online.
According to the campaign website, animalstrike.co.nz a select committee is meeting on October 4 to review submissions from the public on the Psychoactive Substances act, and this according to Paw Justice gives "us one last opportunity to get rid of this law once and for all".
The protests are in response to law changes that happened in July that saw the government sanctioning a new law that allowed animals to be used to test party pills, which saw hundreds of outraged people protesting across New Zealand, with pictures of beagles saying "Why should I die for you to get high?"
The Psychoactive Substances Bill allows for legal highs to be tested on animals, a practice that has been outlawed outlawed in many other countries with animal rights campaigners citing it as being both unethical and unnecessary.
