There's anger at a Christchurch City Council decision not to prop up the city's Bridge of Remembrance.
The iconic monument needs steel bracing to protect it from future aftershocks.
Council staff have decided that the $430,000 price tag to do so is too high but that's sparked anger from the public.
The council's general manager of city environment Jane Parfitt says they're working through a concept and design process for a permanent solution that's likely cost $2 million.
She says spending money on a temporary fix would be counterproductive to an overall permanent solution.
