Act Party candidate Andy Poulsen has withdrawn from the party list only four days after it was announced.
Mr Poulsen, who was ranked number nine, said on his website that he had withdrawn because he did not think he could handle being an MP at this stage.
"I expect many won't understand my reasoning, but with an IT company, two radio stations and an active DJ career, I think I'd have to give up too much to work out of Wellington."
However, Mr Poulsen confirmed to One News last night that there was an "incident" in the early 1990s which he was not proud of and which was a factor in his decision to quit.
Act leader Rodney Hide said he understood Mr Poulsen had withdrawn for personal reasons.
