KEY POINTS:
The body of An An Liu, the slain mother of the three-year-old girl abandoned in a Melbourne railway station, will be cremated and her ashes returned to China.
Ms Liu's mother Xiao Ping Liu, arrived in Auckland from China yesterday for an emotional reunion with her granddaughter, Qian Xun Xue.
She was met by police and Child Youth and Family workers and arrangements were confirmed for her daughter's body to be cremated.
A source close to the family told NZPA the funeral service before the cremation would be very small, possibly with only six or eight people.
Only those with a close relationship to the family would be allowed to attend.
No other details were available but the funeral would probably be held next week.
The search for Qian Xun's father, Nia Yin Xue, has intensified in Los Angeles, after he fled there from Melbourne after leaving his three year old daughter at the Southern Cross Railway Station. He is now wanted for the murder of his wife.
