The Kaipara man who smashed the America's Cup with a sledgehammer almost 10 years ago has written a play about it.
The play - An Interview With the Man Who Smashed the America's Cup - will explain his reasons for the attack.
Penehamine Netana- Patuwawa, then known as Ben Nathan, is still being asked why he did it. "It's a shame I'm remembered as the man who smashed that cup rather than for my artistic efforts, but this play will help people understand why."
Netana-Patuwawa found it amusing the trophy was back in the news as he was promoting his play. The New Zealand Spirit of Adventure Trust wants to auction a piece of the cup left over after repairs as a fundraiser, but the Geneva Yacht Club has claimed ownership.
Mr Netana- Patuwawa's only regret about the 1997 attack was that he didn't finish the job.
The attack was meant as a political statement of retaliation for Maori sites and treasures destroyed by Pakeha. He was jailed for three years for the attack.
