Twenty people have rescued an American tourist from a West Coast cave after the woman suffered a suspected broken leg yesterday.
The woman was with a guided tour group near Charleston and was about 300 metres into the cave when she slipped and suffered a suspected broken leg about 5pm, police said.
Search and rescue coordinator Sergeant Sean Judd said about 20 people, including caving experts, were involved in the difficult rescue, which involved carrying the woman over slippery and steep limestone rock.
The woman was recovered from the cave airlifted to hospital for treatment about 8.30pm.
Police thanked the Westport LandSAR caving team for their assistance in rescuing the woman.
