An amendment to extend the Veterans Pension to all veterans over 65 has been introduced to Parliament today.
Extending eligibility by removing a disability threshold was recommended in the Law Commission's 2010 review of the War Pensions Act.
Veterans' Affairs Minister Michael Woodhouse said removing the limit would increase the
number of eligible veterans from 3200 to about 19,000.
Those eligible would receive the pension at the same rate, but instead of, New Zealand Superannuation, with no reduction for extended hospital stays.
They would also receive a community services card.
