Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) held an open day at Martinborough yesterday to tell the community the service was in town - and to plug for much-needed volunteers.
The service has taken over the facilitation of the Martinborough ambulance from St John, and held a sausage sizzle, vehicle tours and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstrations yesterday at the station in Texas St.
Of particular interest to children was the service's all-terrain buggy, which is used at Westpac Stadium and major events such as Wings over Wairarapa or the Martinborough Fair.
WFA field operations manager Mike Sunderland said Sargent Motorcycles in Carterton had helped with a large discount to enable the buggy's purchase.
He said WFA was hoping to gain some members of the community "who have some spare time on their hands" and could offer that time as volunteers.
