Over the past few weeks the Viva team, headed up by eating out editor Nici Wickes, has been out and about sampling burgers, tacos, noodles and more for our annual 2013 Takeout Awards - take a look at the winners here. Let's just say it' s a fun time - but our waistbands are a little tighter than normal!
After many tasting sessions and much debate, we narrowed it down to 18 fab finds and we're delighted at the diversity of flavours on offer. It is a true reflection of this great city we live in. The fact is we can choose from a sizzling Argentinian barbecue or Malaysian ikan bilis (fried anchovies); from bowls of Middle Eastern fava beans flavoured with sumac and paprika or a Balinese nasi padang served with a balado spicy chilli sauce; and of course there's super fresh fish with hand-cut chips or pork with fennel hot dogs... It's a world of flavours right here on our doorstep and there's no excuse not to experiment next time you're organising dinner on the fly!
Indeed, we would love to hear what your favourite takeout places are and why. There are so many passionate people out there creating delicious food that doesn't always have to be served on a silver platter on a white table cloth - although this is a fun way to serve up your fish your chips!
