A new national song posted on youtube.com and myspace.com and sung by the so-called Matakanui Men's Choir uses the same tune as God Defend New Zealand but with very different words.

The choir behind the song has a dedicated website, claiming to be established in 1958.
"The MMC performs a wide variety of music, with the accompaniment of our dedicated pianist Mrs. Edith Thwaites," according to the MMC website.
Its "choir master and wool classer Trev Smith" told the Christchurch Press newspaper that he did not want his real name printed.
He said he grew up in Central Otago but now lived in Auckland where he was working in web design.
The Press reports no one in the small Central Otago town of Matakanui had heard of the choir or its master.
