A police officer is manning the cordon which is blocking off a driveway next to the Urban Ore store which is next to the Rotorua Recycling Centre.
A shopping trolley with empty alcohol bottles and a couch with blood can be seen in the blocked off driveway.
A man at the scene said police had told him a serious assault happened there overnight.
