KEY POINTS:
An alleged rapist held two knives to his victim's throat as he violated her and counted down the minutes until he would kill her, a court has been told.
Details of the alleged incident were revealed in documents presented at a depositions hearing in New Plymouth District Court yesterday, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
New Plymouth man Gabriel Lee Walden, 27, was committed for trial on charges of kidnapping, rape, sexual connection, threatening to kill and possession of a weapon after the defence conceded he had a case to answer.
The victim was a woman known to him, the newspaper reported.
Defence counsel Kylie Pascoe conceded there was a prima facie case to answer.
Police alleged a drunken Walden, armed with a kitchen knife, first grabbed his victim by her hair and dragged her around her lounge not long after she had put her young son to bed.
He then allegedly dragged her to a bedroom before getting another knife.
After returning he took off his clothes, pulled the woman's skirt up and raped her three times while counting down the minutes she had to live.
He also repeatedly stabbed the victim on different parts of her body and threatened to kill her infant son if she screamed.
After the final alleged rape, Walden told the woman to roll him a smoke.
Before she could, he fell asleep, allowing her to get her son and run to the back of her section, where she called police.
Judge Paul Whitehead remanded Walden on continued electronic bail for a High Court callover on July 2.
