A man facing abduction and other charges has been ruled fit to stand trial.
Nathan Boulter from Southland, appeared at the Auckland District Court today.
He faces nine charges including aggravated burglary, robbery, kidnapping and wounding with intent.
Judge David Harvey reviewed psychiatric reports on Boulter and said he found the evidence to show Boulter was fit to stand trial.
An in-court photo application by the Herald was turned down.
Judge Harvey said the evidence of the reports showed Boulter's mind was in a "clear state of fragility".
"Judging by Boulter's reaction a minute ago, coupled with the evidence before me in the medical reports, I consider the process of photographing may be disruptive."
Boulter was the subject of a 36-hour manhunt on Great Barrier Island in January. He is to reappear later this month.
