An alleged drink driver brought down powerlines before ploughing into the front room of a Hamilton home where a baby was sleeping.
Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno said the crash happened at about 12.45am and when the 41-year-old driver was freed from his four-wheel-drive his blood/alcohol reading was found to be twice the legal limit.
"The driver appears to have been drinking prior to the crash, losing control of his vehicle he has crashed into power lines before smashing into the house where the baby was sleeping," Mr Penno said.
He said the crash cut power to the Livingstone area of Hamilton.
The baby was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance for assessment and was found to have no injuries.
