A man is critically ill in Auckland Hospital after being allegedly attacked by a BMW driver following a minor motor vehicle accident today.
The incident occurred on Carrington Road in the Auckland suburb of Mt Albert, shortly before 8am. The BMW and the victim's vehicle, a van, had been travelling south along Carrington Road when the crash occurred.
Police say it appears the driver of the BMW got out of his car and attacked the driver of the van, pulling him from his vehicle and continuing the alleged assault.
The BMW driver has been arrested and taken to Avondale Police Station in west Auckland.
Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Scott of Avondale CIB says police would like to hear from witnesses to the alleged assault and anyone who has information should call 09 820 5786 or email police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty.
